Celebrating Groundbreaking Scientific Achievements at The Breakthrough Prize Ceremony at the iconic Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
Margarete Cassalina, the author of the memoir, Beyond Breathing and fictional novel See You At Sunset, and her latest book, Embracing the Beauty in the Broken will be speaking at the prestigious Breakthrough Prize ceremony, scheduled for April 13, 2024, at the iconic Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles. Often referred to as the “Oscars for scientists,” this event will shine a spotlight on top minds in science amidst a backdrop glittering with stars from screen, sport, and music.
Initiated by visionaries Sergey Brin, Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg, Yuri and Julia Milner, and Anne Wojcicki, the Breakthrough Prize is awarded annually to exceptional scientists who make seminal advances in their fields. This year, I will present the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences to three remarkable scientists from Vertex—Paul Negulescu, Fredrick Van Goor, and Sabine Hadida. Their transformative work in developing medicines for cystic fibrosis is not only pioneering new pathways in medical science but also bringing hope to thousands, including my own family.
As a parent of two children with cystic fibrosis, standing on that stage, alongside my son, will be an indescribable moment of both personal and universal gratitude. These scientists are not just pioneers in their fields—they are heroes to families like mine across the globe.
